The research consists of the following factors:

  • To investigate the transition behavior of fatigue crack growth for different plate thickness.
  • To analyze the stress concentration factor, stress gradient and stress intensity factor of various thickness of plates.
  • To determine the fatigue life for various notch shape in the plate.
  • To determine the fatigue life of butt and fillet weld joints.
  • To determine the fatigue life of butt and fillet weld joints without considering undercut.
  • To compare the results of Fracture Mechanics approach with S-N approach.

As part of this research, gained competency in the following factors:

  • Finite element Analysis of varieties of welded joints and ship structural components by using structural specialist software code of MSC Patran/Nastran
  • Structural strength (stress, buckling)  analysis of ship structure (by FEA)
  • Tension and bending analysis of welded joints
