Seminar on Resilience in the Information Domain
On 3 September 2025, the Military Institute of Science & Technology (MIST) hosted a timely and high-profile seminar titled “Resilience in the Information Domain: Tools to Address Misinformation and Disinformation on Social Media”. The event was jointly organized by the Armed Forces Division (AFD) and the Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), MIST.
The seminar was held in the General Mostafiz Multipurpose Hall at MIST. The seminar was chaired by Major General Md Nasim Parvez, BSP, ndc, afwc, psc, Commandant of MIST, while Brigadier General Mohammad Shahjahan Majib, ndu, psc, Head of the CSE Department at MIST, served as the moderator. The event was graced by Lt Gen (Retd) Abdul Hafiz, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Defence and National Reconciliation Affairs, as the Chief Guest, and Lt Gen S M Kamrul Hassan, BSP, ndc, hdmc, psc, Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division, as the Special Guest. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Dr. Md Abu Yousuf, Vice Chancellor of the University of Frontier Technology, Bangladesh.
In his address, Lt Gen Abdul Hafiz stressed that in the modern age, distorted information can be even more dangerous than missiles. “The future war will not start with weapons, but with viral video or distorted information,” he warned. He urged society to question and verify content before sharing, to invest in indigenous fact-checking tools, explore AI-based countermeasures (e.g. deepfake detection), and embed media literacy in both civilian and defense education. Lt Gen Kamrul Hassan also spoke about the urgency for sustainable strategies to preserve information integrity, strengthen cybersecurity, and adopt integrated approaches combining technology, policy, and awareness
