A seminar on Cyber Security was held on 01 October 2023 which was organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) in collaboration with the Armed Forces Division, Bangladesh. Honorable State Minister of the ICT Division Mr. Zunaid Ahmed Palak, MP, graced the seminar as Chief Guest and Lt Gen Waker-Uz-Zaman, SGP, psc, Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division was present as special guest. The chairman of the seminar was Maj Gen Mohammed Saidul Islam, rcds, ndc, psc, Commandat, MIST and the seminar is moderated by Brig Gen Md Mahfuzul Karim Majumder, ndc, psc, te, Head, Dept of CSE, MIST.
The seminar's agenda was filled with enlightening discussions and presentations aimed at addressing the rapidly evolving landscape of cybersecurity. Maj Gen Md. Emdad-Ul-Bari with an impressive list of accolades, delivered a keynote presentation on "Measures and Preparedness for Emerging Cyber Threats in the first session of the seminar. The highlight of the event was a thought-provoking panel discussion titled "Public Awareness and Regulatory Aspects regarding Emerging Cyber Threats." The panel included distinguished experts such as Prof Dr. B M Mainul Hossain from Dhaka University and Mohammed Ishaque Miah, the Chief Information Security Officer of Bangladesh Bank. They explored the significance of public awareness and the regulatory framework in mitigating cyber threats, offering a blend of academic and practical perspectives.
In the second session of the seminar Prof Dr. Mohammad Mahfuzul Islam, Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University presented keynote on “A Roadmap to Resilience: Readiness for Emerging Cyber Threats”. The other panel, titled "Cyber Resilience towards building Smart Bangladesh," brought together experts to discuss the vital role of cyber resilience in building a smarter Bangladesh. The panelists included Russell T. Ahmed, President of BASIS, and Mohammad Shahadat Hossain, Security Architect at Grameen Phone. This discussion provided valuable insights into the strategies and technologies necessary to fortify the nation's digital infrastructure and pave the way for a smarter and more secure Bangladesh.
The Cyber Security Seminar 2023 successfully united experts, policymakers, and practitioners, offering a comprehensive view of the challenges and solutions in the realm of cybersecurity in Bangladesh. It provided a crucial platform for discussions, collaborations, and the exchange of ideas to strengthen cybersecurity measures and contribute to a safer digital environment for all.
